How to Use Sonar Fish Finder
How to activate and read sonar data on your LYX-001C or LYX-001D fish finder bait boat. Interpret fish location, depth and underwater terrain.
Before You Start
- LYX series RC bait boat (any model: 001A / 001B / 001C / 001D)
- Remote controller with batteries installed
- Battery charger (included in package)
- Clean, dry workspace near water
Step-by-Step Instructions
Activate Sonar Mode
Power on your LYX-001C or LYX-001D bait boat. The sonar module activates automatically when the boat is in water. The LCD screen will show 'Sonar Active' and begin scanning.
Read Depth Data
The LCD screen displays current water depth in meters or feet. Depth readings update in real-time as the boat moves. Use this to find drop-offs, shelves and underwater features.
Identify Fish Icons
Fish locations appear as fish icons on the LCD screen. Larger icons indicate bigger fish. The depth number next to the icon shows how deep the fish is swimming.
Monitor Water Temperature
The sonar also measures water surface temperature, displayed on the LCD. This helps identify thermoclines where fish tend to gather.
Use Data for Bait Placement
Drive the boat to areas with fish icons and favorable depth/temperature readings. Release bait from the hopper when the boat is directly above the fish location.
Interpret Bottom Structure
The bottom contour line on the LCD shows hard bottom (tight line) vs soft bottom (fuzzy line). Carp often feed over soft bottom areas near drop-offs.
Common Mistakes
- Expecting sonar to work on dry land (sonar requires water contact)
- Misreading surface clutter as fish icons near the boat hull
- Ignoring water temperature data that indicates fish activity levels
- Not adjusting boat speed when scanning (slower speed gives clearer readings)
- Assuming the sonar covers a very wide area (beam angle is typically 20-45 degrees)
Safety & Maintenance Tips
- Sonar works best in water deeper than 1 meter; shallow water readings may be unreliable
- Do not rely solely on sonar data; combine with fishing experience and local knowledge
- The sonar transducer should be clean and free of debris for accurate readings
- In very weedy water, sonar may show false readings due to plant interference
- After each fishing session, rinse the sonar transducer with fresh water to remove debris
