500M in open, flat-water conditions with no obstructions. On typical UK carp lakes (mostly under 10 acres), 500M exceeds the full width — you can scan the entire lake in one pass. On larger reservoirs, 500M covers the near bank to a clear midwater scouting run. Tree-lined banks reduce range to 380–420M due to signal absorption.
The sonar scans continuously at all speeds. For detailed underwater mapping, reduce speed to 30–40M/min — this gives each sonar ping more overlap with adjacent readings and produces cleaner LCD traces. At 60M/min (full speed), you still get depth readings and fish alarm function, but fine structure detail at 20M+ depth may be compressed. Use full speed for transit between swim areas, slow speed for detail scouting.
